The Birthday Blues
Dear Daughter:
Today I want to discuss the great phenomenon that is our birthdays. The day we were brought into this world is joyous for many reasons. But this day can also be a bit sad for some as well. I think that as a society, we are taught to always depend and receive things that are not from us. We constantly search for validation and encouragement form others, when really, all of those great things needs to come from us before we accept any one else's.
I say this, because now that I am 24 years old, I realized my "birthday blues" were largely dependent on others and their action or lack there of. I had all of these secret expectations from people, and when they didn't meet those expectations, I found myself extremely disappointed year after year. Until I woke up one day, and I realized that the only expectations I should have, are the expectations I have for myself. If I want to have a GREAT birthday, I must first make it a great birthday for myself. From there, the universe will respond, and you will find that you end up having everything that you need. That's the magic of the universe. We are always supplied with everything that we need. It is up to us to recognize that.
In conclusion, I want you to always remember that YOU and your priorities have to come first, always. People will seemingly "disappoint" you every time you rely on them for your happiness. You have to celebrate your big wins and your small wins. You are the main character in your life, so you make the "rules". Today is my birthday, and I have decided that today will be a celebration for myself. I booked my trip, I bought my birthday outfits, I booked my hair appointment. I did whatever I needed to do to ensure that I have a great day, and so far it is working. Everyday you must remember that you deserve all the love the universe has to offer, but you have to first believe that. Show the universe you love yourself by celebrating yourself. I promise it works!
Happy 24th birthday to me, I love you.
